Chocolate Avocado Mousse

I know I am guilty of saying this about nearly every dessert I make but this is truly one of my favourites because of its simplicity + it tastes absolutely heavenly too!! What makes this recipe oh-so-special is its star ingredient- welcome the humble AVOCADO.

If this fruit had legs I would run away with one.

The creamy smooth texture of avocado creates the perfect mousse-like-consistency. If you didn’t know any better you would never guess it even contained it! That’s the beauty of this recipe. It’s healthy, nourishing and nutritious + sugar and dairy free and yet still tastes sinfully decadent.

This chocolate avocado mousse not only looks like conventional chocolate mousse but it tastes like it too and is sure to make an impression on any traditional mousse lover.

Avocados are naturally cholesterol free, high in fibre, contain an array of nutrients and are rich in nourishing healthy fats.

Eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to miss out. It actually means you can indulge even more just without the guilt!! 

This recipe is one I often turn to in the midst of a oh-my-god-I-have-no-dessert-crisis. Providing a have a few ripe avocados hanging around I can have my sweet tooth satiated in a matter of moments.

So go on, I dare you to try this recipe. Treat your taste buds to this silky smooth chocolate mousse. You won’t be disappointed.

Ingredients

Serves 2-3  (If I had my way it would serve one) 

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 3 Tbsp. cacao powder (or to taste)
  • 1/4 cup coconut cream
  • 3 Tbsp. maple syrup (or to taste)
  • Pinch salt

Optional: Mood permitting, I will add a few drops of either peppermint essential oil for a refreshing choc-mint-mousse to cleanse the palate OR orange essential oil for a choc-jaffa-mousse. Both are divine!!

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and process until completely smooth and creamy (I personally use my thermomix and it’s done in a little time as 30 second)
  2. Garnish with shredded coconut, cacao nibs, berries and or fresh mint leaves

Note: Your avocados must be perfectly ripe. If they are too hard you will have clumpy mousse and the taste just won’t be the same.
